School Governing Bodies (SGBs) and School Management Teams (SMTs) will shortlist and interview candidates.
Schools must recruit from the ranked lists provided by SA Youth (Harambee). These lists include applicants who applied when the positions were advertised.
Placement is for a fixed period only – there is no expectation of renewal or permanency.
Assistants must come from the community where the school is located before applying. Schools should avoid nepotism.
The interviewing panel will assess the school’s curriculum support, learner support, administration, and facilities maintenance needs when selecting assistants.
Priority will be given to:
Poor-performing classes
Female applicants (65% target)
People with disabilities (2% target)
Teacher graduates with a BEd (NQF 7) for Curriculum Assistant roles
School type allocations:
Fee-paying high schools: Curriculum Assistants ONLY
Fee-paying primary schools: Curriculum Assistants & Reading Champions ONLY
No-fee schools: Both Education Assistants (EAs) & General School Assistants (GSAs)
